Facilitating Collective Coffee Sales: Strengthening Farmer-Buyer Relations

Objective

The main objective of this activity was to assist coffee farmers in selling their products to buyers, ensuring fair trade practices and strengthening long-term relationships between the farmers and buyers on sustainable terms.

Process of Implementation

  • Connecting with Buyers: We coordinated a visit from Mr. Santosh, a buyer from Palungtar, Gorkha, to the PESHA project's pulping centers.
  • Support Services: During the visit, our designated Social Mobilizer and Technical Supervisor facilitated the weighing and grading of coffee parchment and dry beans, ensuring transparent and efficient transactions.

Outputs

  • Total Coffee Farmers Involved: 168 farmers
  • Total Quantity Sold: 1,565.9 Kg
    • Parchment Coffee: 944.6 Kg
    • Dry Beans: 621.3 Kg
  • Total Sales Value: NPR 6,78,000 for the fiscal year 80/81, marking an 85.54% increase from the previous year 079/80 (NPR 3,65,409.05)

Building Sustainable Market Linkages

Through this initiative, we have not only facilitated the sale of coffee but also strengthened the market linkages between coffee farmers and buyers, laying the foundation for a more sustainable and profitable coffee trade. Our focus remains on empowering farmers to gain better market access and maximize their income from coffee production.
